Art is in Nocona Burgess’ blood. The descendant of two Comanche chiefs, he grew up traveling the country and around his family of artists. Seeking to develop his own work, Burgess found himself in Santa Fe exploring the fusion of traditional forms and contemporary styles of Native art. “I liked the idea of modern Indians; after all that’s who I am.” You can also find Nocona’s work on La Fonda’s walls.
Joining with Santa Fe’s new Artists in Residence program, La Fonda will be offering a weekend art experience from November through February that will connect a variety of different New Mexico artists, including many whose work graces our walls, with our guests and visitors right here in the lobby of the hotel. From jewelry-making to basket-weaving to beadwork to painting, come experience the magic of art and interact with the artists as they create their masterpieces and experience first-hand their creative process.
